PUEBLO, Colo. – The CSUSB women's soccer team defeated Colorado State Pueblo on Sunday afternoon by a close score of 1-0. With the win, the Yotes improve to 2-2-0 in non-conference play and 2-0 on the road.
There were eight shots taken by the Yotes offense in the game, but it only took one to go in for CSUSB to earn the win. In the 10th minute of the game,
Kaylen Gonzalez outpaced the Thunderwolves' defense to breakthrough one-on-one with the goalkeeper and slotted a goal into the bottom left corner. This was Gonzalez's first goal of the season.
The Yotes defense, made up of
Mitzali Macias,
Rosalie Hawkins, Rebeca Cruz, and
Alaina O'Connell, locked down the Thunderwolves' offense in the second half. Though they were able to take nine shots all together, only one was on target. This forced goalkeeper
Leila Peregrina to make one crucial save in the second half, preserving her clean sheet and earning her second shutout of the season.
The Yotes braved the windy Colorado conditions and an onslaught of pressure from the Thunderwolves to win the game with a final score of 1-0.
