LA QUINTA, Calif. – The CSUSB men's golf team placed second in the Battle in the Desert Tournament hosted by CSUSB at the PGA West Pete Dye Mountain Course. After sitting in first place out of 16 teams for nearly the entire tournament, the Yotes came up just short on the final day to finish second in the team rankings at +5 over par. They came one stroke short of Cal State East Bay, who ended up in first place at +4 for the tournament.

Palm Desert native
John Kim felt comfortable in his hometown, leading the field of 80 by shooting 210 (-6) in the tournament. Kim shot well under par the first two rounds, finishing with 68 (-4) and 69 (-3) respectively. Wednesday proved to be extremely challenging for the entire field, as aggressive winds inflated everyone's score. Despite the challenging elements, Kim still finished just one over par at 73.
