SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The CSUSB women's soccer team came up just short to Point Loma Nazarene on Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 4-5. The Yotes now hold an even 2-2 record on the season.
Nathaly Losada Lucumi led the Coyote offense against the Sea Lions, scoring two goals in the game (24
th and 39
th minute). This is the second time Losada Lucumi has scored a pair of goals in a single game while wearing the Blue & Black, having also done it against Cal State San Marcos in the
final game of the 2021 regular season.
Freshman forward
Sarah Mahfoud has proven herself to be an elite scorer for the Yotes offense this season, netting her fourth goal in as many games (45
th minute). She is now tied for most goals scored in the CCAA (4), and is currently tied for fifth in all of NCAA Division II.
Jocelyn Galvan delivered her best performance of the season thus far, recording a goal in the first 48 seconds of the game while also collecting two assists. The Yotes put up a good fight against the undefeated Sea Lions, remaining tied at 3-3 at the end of the first half. Each team scored once again to open the second half, followed by PLNU taking a 5-4 lead in the 70
th minute – a lead they would hang on to for the rest of the game.
The Yotes look for their first road win of the season this upcoming Thursday, September 15
th, in a 7:00 PM game at Azusa Pacific. They will return home for their final non-conference game of the regular season on Saturday, September 17
th, at 11:30 AM against Cal State San Marcos.
