AZUSA, Calif. – The CSUSB women's soccer team collected their first road win of the season on Thursday night, defeating Azusa Pacific 1-0. With the win, the Yotes improve to 3-2 while handing APU their first loss of the season. The Cougars entered the game with a 2-0-2 record, receiving national votes in the latest
United Soccer Coaches Top 25 on Tuesday.
The only goal of the game came in the 68
th minute. After receiving a pass in the box,
Isabella Santa Maria fired a shot, but was blocked by a defender - resulting in a corner kick for the Yotes.
Katherine Walker then served up a perfect assist to
Sofia Melgoza, who redirected the ball into the net for the first goal of her collegiate career. This goal gave the Yotes a 1-0 lead, one they would hang on to for the rest of the game to secure the win.
Senior goalkeeper
Carly Luna shut down the Cougar offense, recording four saves to earn her second shutout of the season. This was Luna's ninth career shutout, placing her seventh among all-time CSUSB goalkeepers.
