Yotes Dominate In Last Game of the Season

CSUSB hosted Cal State San Marcos in last match of the season.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The Yotes closed their season hosting the Cal State San Marcos Cougars on Premier Field. It was a great showing of teamwork as each goal scored for CSUSB was from an assist. The Yotes outpaced the Cougars, 3-1.

In the first half, CSUSB was first to strike as Vidalia Abarca connected with the net off of an assist by Nathaly Losada Lucumi. The Cougars hit their first and last shot of the match in the 28th minute. Before the first half ended, Lucumi made her way into scoring position and scored a goal off an assist by Emelie Peraza. Going into halftime the score was 2-1.

In the 61st minute Lucumi scored another goal assisted by Sarah Savella. CSUSB's defense in Danielle Landrum, Katherine Walker, Alaina O'Connell, Rebekka Bogan, and Rebeca Cruz kept CSUSM scoreless for the remainder of the game. Yotes took the win in dominating fashion, 3-1.

Goalkeeper Carly Luna finished the match with four saves.

"Today was an excellent performance and a very good result" said coach Mark Peters. "San Marcos are always a difficult opponent and it was nice to end the season with a win at home. There are plenty of things to reflect on looking back at the season but this group, and myself, have learned a lot. Given the quality we have returning I'm excited for what the future holds for this group."

CSUSB went on a run winning three out of the last four games of the season. The Yotes closed the 2021 season with a record of (4-10-2; 2-6-2 CCAA).
