Yotes Set Three More School Records

CSUSB Competes in San Diego and Claremont

SAN DIEGO and CLAREMONT – The CSUSB Coyotes continued their busy spring schedule the past couple weekends with a number of notable performances. 

At the California Collegiate Open at UC San Diego, in the 3000 meter steeplechase, Arianna Fuentes finished first at 11:03.09, taking 20 seconds off her time for the number two all-time mark at CSUSB.

Victoria Soto posted the third-best mark in CSUSB history in the shot put at 32'9.75", taking ninth in the event.  Savannah Milner had the fourth-best all-time time in the 800 meters at 2:22.86, taking 17th.  Michelle Pineda Palacios ran 4:43.78 in the 1500 meters, taking seventh with the third-fastest CSUSB time.  Tori Wiley set the fifth-best mark in the 100 meter hurdles at 17.90 and the relay team of Valentina Sanabria, Miranda Avila, Milner, and Makenzie Matteson ran 4:09.99 to take seventh in the 4x400 meters and post the sixth-best time at CSUSB.

Kaylie Balvaneda broke into the 10,000 meters for the first time, finishing at 38:33.01 at the UCLA Bob Larsen Distance Carnival.

A week later at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, the Yotes broke three school records.  Soto broke her school record in the discus at 124'4", taking 21st.  Destiny Colton expanded her long jump record to 17'4.25" taking 18th.  Sanabria broke her triple jump record at 35'8", finishing 15th.

Sanabria also posted the second-best long jump mark at 16'8" and Jordan Munford set her season best in the 200 meters at 25.94.  Munford then finished 11th in the 100 meters at 12.45, third all-time at CSUSB.  Wiley set the fifth-best time in the 100 meters at 17.61 and Price, Pineda Palacios, Avila, and Matteson ran the season's best 4x400 meter relay time at 4:04.98, 13th in the event and fourth all-time at CSUSB.

"It is awesome to see how much we are progressing week to week," CSUSB head coach Lauren Reimer-Podgaysky said.  "We will continue to challenge ourselves and working hard as the effort does pay off."

This Friday at 2 pm the Yotes will compete in the Highlander Challenge at UC Riverside.
