CLAREMONT, Calif. – It was another outstanding week early in the season for CSUSB at the Rossi Relays at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday.
Another school record fell as Samantha Garcia tossed a 33.83m javelin throw, finishing 10th in the event and beating her mark of 33.04m from the previous week. Muffy Watson set the number two mark all-time at CSUSB in the discus at 37.11m, taking seventh in the event with her personal best.
In the 100 meters, Maya Price sprinted to a 12.49 finish, third all-time at CSUSB and Destiny Colton ran at 13.18, seventh at CSUSB and her personal record. They finished 13th and 35th.
The Yotes ran three teams in the 4x800 meter relay, setting the number two, six, and nine times all-time at CSUSB. Arianna Fuentes, Savannah Milner, Kaylie Balvaneda, and Michelle Pineda Palacios took the second time at 9:43.82. Next it was Marissa Angulo, Rachel Gee, Alexis Espinosa, and Destiny Jacobo at 10:21.21 and then Miranda Avila, Christiana Campbell, Justine Ziranda, and Michelle Arevalo at 10:26.94. The teams took second, eighth, and ninth in the event.
Three more all-time marks were set in the distance medley relay. Gee, Makenzie Matteson, Pineda Palacios, and Balvaneda set the number three mark at 12:36.44. Angulo, Arevalo, Milner, and Fuentes set the sixth mark at 12:55.95, and Jacobo, Aisha Johnwell, Espinosa, and Giselle Sanchez set the number nine mark at 12:06.38. In the event they finished sixth, 13th, and 17th.
"It was great to have the full team competing this weekend," head coach Lauren Reimer-Podgaysky said. "The distance squad opened up for their first meet of the season. This team is achieving great accomplishments early in the season and we look forward to more week after week."
This week is a Friday meet at 1 pm at the RCC Invitational at Riverside City College.
