Martinez's 3-run homer lifts Coyotes to victory

SAN BERNARDINO (March 15, 2017) — Lucas Martinez connected on a three-run home run that put the Coyotes up for good in their 6-4 victory over nonconference foe Concordia (Irvine) at Fiscalini Field on Wednesday night.

CSUSB (5-16 overall) is at Cal State East Bay for a three-game series that begins Saturday.

Bailey Collins gave Concordia a 3-0 lead in the first on a three-run shot over the right-center field wall. Tyler Van Marter brought the Coyotes back on a two-run single through the left side in the first.

Dillon Fahr tied the game at 3-3 in the second on a single up the middle that scored Jordan Simon, who led off with a single up the middle.

The Eagles regained the lead with one run on no hits in the third.

Fahr and A.J. Duran reached base with one out in the fourth before Martinez cranked a no-doubter over the left-field wall.

The game had a brief "Bull Durham" moment when the infield sprinklers came on at 8 p.m., delaying the game seven minutes.

The Coyotes had eight pitchers, and Noah Simon (1-0) earned the win by striking out the side in the fifth. Matthew Moriarty earned his first save of the season, facing just four Eagles in the ninth.

CSUSB held the Eagles to eight hits for the game, giving up four in the first.

Fahr and Daniel Romo each had two hits.

CUI dropped to 6-13.
