Box Score LA JOLLA (Sept. 20, 2015) -- For just the sixth time in school history, the Coyotes walked off the pitch against UC San Diego victorious.
Freshman
Denae Verdine placed a low shot to the left of the goalkeeper in the 97th minute in the Coyotes' 3-2 win over the Tritons on Sunday night.
The victory pushes the Coyotes to a 2-3-2 overall record and 1-0-1 in the CCAA.
Senior
Melanie Aguayo scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season, one in the 12th minute and the other in the 58th for a 2-0 Coyotes lead.
UCSD came back with a pair of goals inside a 10-minute span late in regulation to set up the extra period.
The Coyotes connected on three of their four shots on goal for their first victory against the Tritons since Sept. 30, 2012, and just their third all time in La Jolla.
Aguayo put the Coyotes on the board when she delivered a low shot from the right diagonal into the left corner.
Then in the second half, she gathered a rebound shot into the upper left from the left side with Verdine earning the assist.
Alex Yockey and
Alyssa Campa earned assists on the game-winning goal by Verdine, who shot low at the near post for the winner.
Junior GK
Emily Whyte had seven saves, and Verdine led with four shots. Aguayo and freshman
Gabby Evaristo had three shots apiece.
CSUSB returns to Coyote Premier Field on Friday night when it takes on Cal State L.A. at 4:30 p.m. The Friday games are CSUSB's first-ever night games on campus. The men play at 7 p.m.
UCSD now leads the all-time series 32-6-6.
