Box Score 2 CARSON (April 18, 2015) -- One day after sweeping Cal State Dominguez Hills, the Coyotes were dealt a doubleheader loss at the hands of the Toros, losing 6-2 and 9-6 in CCAA softball.
The Coyotes (25-23 overall, 17-14 CCAA) complete the regular season this coming week at UC San Diego, beginning Friday in La Jolla. The Coyotes remain in fourth place in the conference with a half game lead over Chico State.
Game 1: Toros 6, Coyotes 2Five of the six Toros' run were courtesy of the long ball and the Coyotes could not recover.
Jasmine Cortinas led off with a homer off Coyotes starter
Cassandra Williams, and then hit another lead-off homer -- this time in the third, and the Toros later added a three-run homer for a 5-0 lead through three innings.
Thalia Ortiz made sure the game was not a shutout when she connected on a two-run shot in the fifth.
Victoria Lievanos had two hits for the Coyotes. Five of the six Coyotes' hits were singles.
Game 2: Toros 9, Coyotes 6CSUDH scored six runs in the fourth for a 7-2 lead and went on to earn the sweep.
Ortiz continued her hot day with two doubles and
Alyssa Ramos went 2-for-3, as did
Monica Maddox.
