Box Score 2 ARCATA (March 6, 2015) -- Cal State San Bernardino rallied from a six-run deficit for a 7-6 win in the first game of a doubleheader Friday against No. 19 Humboldt State in CCAA softball.
The Coyotes (10-12, 2-7 CCAA) were defeated in the second game, 3-1.
CSUSB and HSU (10-7, 7-3) conclude their weekend series wtih Saturday's doubleheader that begins at 11 a.m.
Game 1: Coyotes 7, Lumberjacks 6HSU scored two runs in each of the first three innings, before the Coyotes unloaded late in the game.
CSUSB got going in the sixth, and the rally took place wtih two outs.
Melissa Roberts reached base on fielder's choice and
Mary Menicucci followed with a single.
Monica Maddox answered with a run-scoring single.
Then,
Nicole Nobbe scored Menicucci on a single and that brought up freshman
Ashley Leffingwell with two runners on base.
She ripped a home run to bring the Coyotes to within two runs of the lead.
In the seventh,
Brittany Resendez and
Cassandra Williams had back-to-back singles, and after
Thalia Ortiz moved the runners over with a sacrifice bunt, Roberts came through with a two-run triple.
Cassandra Williams earned the victory in five innings. She had six strikeouts and three walks.
Nobbe had three hits and Williams had two.
Game 2: Lumberjacks 3, Coyotes 1The Coyotes had just four hits for the game and got their run in the seventh.
Nobbe connected on a two-out double to center that brought in Maddox.
Roberts,
Victoria Lievanos and Menicucci each had hits for the Coyotes.
Jamie Nelson gave up seven hits in six innings wtih two walks and no strikeouts.
