Box Score 2 SAN BERNARDINO (Feb. 7, 2015) -- The Coyotes suffered a tough Saturday afternoon at Fiscalini Field, losing both games in their doubleheader against Holy Names, 11-4 and 7-4 in eight innings.
CSUSB (0-4) looks to gain its first victory of 2015 Sunday afternoon when the Coyotes take on the Hawks in the series finale. First pitch is 11 a.m.
Game 1: Holy Names 11, Coyotes 4
Warren Fishback connected on a leadoff home run in the second inning, but the Hawks were too much to overcome in the opener.
The Coyotes trailed 1-0 after the first inning and were right back into the game when Fishback came through.
However, the Hawks sent 10 batters to the plate in the third, scoring five runs on five hits for a 6-1 lead. They added four in the seventh, thanks to Matthew Dufford's three-run homer.
Trailing 11-1 entering the bottom of the eighth, CSUSB strung together a three-run inning. Jose Hernandez reached on a walk with one out and William Ouellette followed with a single. Grant Buchanan followed with a run-scoring double and Fishback added a sac fly and the Coyotes trailed 11-3. Aaron Owen gave the Coyotes their third run in the eighth on a single to short.
Owen was 4-for-4 and Ouellette had two hits for the Coyotes, who had 10 for the game.
The Hawks' Trent Carrier earned the victory. He threw seven innings with six strikeouts and did not issue a walk.
Game 2: Holy Names 7, Coyotes 4 8 innings
CSUSB scored four runs in the first inning with Owen providing a two-run double to left. The Coyotes had five hits in the first, but then went the next six innings without a hit as Hawks starter Michah Ashburn settled down and got in control.
The Hawks scored two runs in the third, then tied the game in the seventh They broke through with a three-run eighth and the Coyotes could not recover.
CSUSB had the bases loaded with no outs in the eighth, but could not score. Jon-Paolo D'Este hit into a 1-2 putout with the bases loaded, and was called out on interference for a devastating double play. With runners at second and third, Owen grounded out to second to end the game.
Ashburn had six strikeouts without a walk.
Coyotes RHP Tyler Wells had five strikeouts with three walks in five innings.
