Box Score 2 SAN BERNARDINO – Improving a batting average from .486 takes a herculean effort.
Well, senior
Nicole Nobbe flexed her muscles in the weekend series against visiting San Francisco State, going 10-for-13 with four doubles as the Coyotes swept the Gators on Saturday.
CSUSB won Saturday's game by scores of 5-2 and 10-2 in the six innings and improved to 29-21 overall and 16-16 CCAA heading into next weekend's final regular-season series at Cal State Monterey Bay.
Game 1: Coyotes 5, SFSU 2Trailing 2-0 after one inning, the Coyotes picked apart the Gators and took control with a three-run fifth inning.
CSUSB got solo runs in the third when
Darian Manuz scored on an unearned run and
Cassandra Williams drove in a run on her one-out double in the fourth and the game was tied at 2-2.
In the fifth, Manuz hit a triple down the right-field line that scored pinch-runner
Na'Tavia Lee and
Thalia Ortiz followed with a two-run shot over the left-field wall and CSUSB had its three-run lead.
Williams (15-11) went the distance and threw six innings of shut-out ball. She finished with six strikeouts, did not offer a walk and scattered six hits.
Both Nobbe and Manuz had two hits and Ortiz led with her two RBI.

Mary Menicucci and Roberts each had RBI. Menicucci earned hers on a bases-loaded walk, and Roberts singled to right.
Nobbe added an RBI of her own in the second when she drove in Ortiz, who singled, and CSUSB led 4-0.
Tiffany McIntosh added to the hit parade with a run-scoring single in the fourth and the Coyotes took a 5-0 lead through four.
SFSU came back to make things interesting with a two-run sixth, but that didn't matter as the Coyotes posted a five-run sixth to end the game early.
CSUSB had seven base hits in the inning – all singles – and Ortiz finished off the game with a base hit to right that scored Menicucci.
Ortiz, Ramos, Nobbe and McIntosh all had three hits apiece to lead the 15-hit attack. Ortiz, Menicucci and Roberts had two RBI each.
RHP
Stephanie Luhman (13-9) earned the victory with one strikeout and one walk.
Nobbe takes a .510 batting average into the final regular-season week of play at CCAA-leading Cal State Monterey Bay. She is vying to become the first Coyote in the Division II era to finish to reach the .500 level. All-American Anne Cordaro hit at least .500 in two different seasons (1988, 90) when CSUSB competed at the Division III level.
The Coyotes honored their two seniors -- Manuz and Nobbe -- in a postgame ceremony.
