Desert appeals to Coyotes in 10-5 win

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Warren Fishback connected on a three-run triple for Cal State San Bernardino, which defeated Southwest Minnesota State 10-5 in nonconference play Friday night.

The Coyotes (5-13) take on Northern State (S.D.) and St. Cloud State (Minn.) on Saturday and complete the weekend with a single game Sunday against Concordia-St. Paul.

The Coyotes, who trailed 2-1, got going with a three-run third. They later added three runs in the seventh and eighth innings for the victory over the Mustangs (2-4).

Trevor McMaster had a run-scoring double and Aaron Beckley supplied an RBI-triple to key the third.

Leading 4-3 entering their half of the seventh, the Coyotes again got a three-run inning, this time thanks to Fishback's triple.

After SMSU earned two runs in the eighth to cut the Coyotes' lead to 7-5, CSUSB got their third three-run inning.

Brian Lockey had a single that drove in Nolan Almodovar and two batters later, Aaron Owen laced a double down the leff-field line that drove in Lockey and Steven Chagolla (single).

Senior LHP Kerry Kelley threw six innings with a season-high nine strikeouts. He gave up five hits, two runs (both earned), but hit three batters.

Senior RHP Brian Jipp earned the save with 1.1 innings. He had three strikeouts.
