Box Score 2 SAN BERNARDINO – The Coyotes ran into a difficult test against visiting No. 20 UC Sand Diego and were dealt a doubleheader sweep by the Tritons, losing 8-3 and 15-10.
The Coyotes (16-11, 10-8 CCAA) and Tritons (16-4, 11-3) resume their weekend series with a doubleheader Saturday that begins at noon.
Game 1: UCSD 8, Coyotes 3
The Coyotes were held to just six hits with freshman
Thalia Ortiz leading with two.
CSUSB trailed 3-0 entering the second, but could not score more than one run in an inning.
Ortiz,
Tiffany McIntosh and
Cassandra Williams had RBI.
Williams threw seven innings and allowed 10 hits, eight runs, but only three runs were earned. She struck out three and walked three.
Game 2: UCSD 15, Coyotes 8
This one will do down in the heart-breaker category as the Coyotes led 10-7 entering the seventh inning, only to see the Tritons send 13 batters to the plate with eight runs on seven hits.
McIntosh connected on her league-leading 11
th home run, a two-run shot to right center.
CSUSB extended its lead 9-3 in the third when it sent 11 batters to the plate and scored six runs on five hits.
Ortiz had a two-run single to right in the third, along with
Melissa Roberts, who pinch-hit for
Kristin Lopez.
Williams took the loss with her 2/3ds on an inning.
