Box Score LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Freshman
Thalia Ortiz set the tone Friday afternoon with a leadoff home run in the first inning and the Coyotes were off and running in a 9-0 win in 5 innings over Colorado School of Mines at the Desert Stinger tournament, hosted by Montana State-Billings.
Ortiz was 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and junior
Nicole Nobbe was 2-for-2 with three RBI to lead the Coyotes, who out-hit their opponent 11-2 in a game called after five due to the eight-run rule.
On the mound, freshman
Cassandra Williams (2-0 overall) did her part in fine fashion. She struck out the side in order in the first and had five strikeouts through two innings. She allowed two hits – both singles – and did not allow a walk in four innings.
Kacey Cota threw the fifth inning and had one strikeout.
Tiffany McIntosh, who was robbed of two home runs in the season opener by outstanding catches over the center-field wall, ripped a solo shot to lead off the second.
Jennifer Del Mar had a two-run single in the third and Nobbe got two of her RBI on a double down the left-field line in the fourth.
In the fifth inning, Ortiz added an RBI-single and Nobbe had a sac fly RBI.
The Coyotes played just once Friday and play two on Saturday – against Central Washington and Western Oregon.
