Coyotes extend winning streak to five

CSUSB shoots 60 percent in 75-60 win over CSUDH

Tayllor Gipson led CSUSB with 19 points against CSUDH.
Box Score CARSON -- Not even a flat tire on the 605 could stop the Coyotes on Friday night.

The Coyotes shot a blistering 60 percent from the field and cruised to their season-best fifth straight victory with a 75-60 victory over host Cal State Dominguez Hills.

CSUSB (9-15 overall, 8-13 CCAA) will play its final game of the season Saturday night at Cal State L.A. and it's too bad the season will end with its 25th game as the Coyotes are easily playing at their best this season.

Some two hours after one of the Coyotes' vans sustained a flat tire during Friday's rain storm in Santa Fe Springs, coach Renee Jimenez's crew handled the occasion like it was nothing. The Coyotes gathered the lead for good with 15-plus minutes remaining in the first half and held double-digit leads throughout the final 20 teams against a team vying for an NCAA Tourney berth.

It was the Coyotes who looked like an NCAA squad with senior Tayllor Gipson scoring a game-high 19 points. Sophomore Alexcia Mack was right behind Gipson with 18 and senior Trinidee Trice had 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting with three assists and four rebounds.

Fellow senior Jazzmyn Davis scored 12 points off the bench and missed just one shot in seven attempts from the field.

Leading 24-22 with 8:09 left in the first half, the Coyotes turned momentum firmly in their direction by ending the half on a 16-6 run and led 40-28 on a Trice jumper with six seconds left.

Gipson had seven of the Coyotes' 16 points as they shot 56.7 percent from the field.

But that was just a mere morsel in the complete feast that occurred in the final half. The Coyotes increased their efficiency from the field, hitting 12 of 18 from the field, good for 66.7 percent.
