SAN BERNARDINO -- CSUSB secured a successful weekend series against visiting Sonona State, earning a Saturday split and winning three of four games.
Sonoma State took the opener, 7-5, and came back to win 4-3.
CSUSB (10-7, 4-4 CCAA) return to Coyote Park on Friday and Saturday when it takes on Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Game 1: Sonoma State 7, Coyotes 5
Sonoma State scored all seven of its runs in the second inning on seven hits to withstand the Coyotes' rally.
Melissa Roberts added an RBI-double in the second and Tiffany McIntosh added a run-scoring single in the fourth and CSUSB trailed 7-4.
Nicole Nobbe trimmed the deficit to 7-3 on an RBI-single and then, McIntosh and Mary Menicucci had consecutive home runs in the sixth.
McIntosh was the only Coyote to have more than one hit.
Game 2: Coyotes 4, Sonoma State 3
The Coyotes allowed Sonoma State to take a 3-0 lead until freshman Thalia Ortiz hit a solo home run down the left-field line in the fourth.
CSUSB answered and secured the win with a three-run sixth.
Darian Manuz walked and moved to third on Nobbe's double to left. Victoria Lievanos then followed with another double to left, scoring both Manuz and Nobbe and the Coyotes tied the game at 3-3.
Two batters later, McIntosh delivered a single to left that scored Lievanos.
Freshman Cassandra Williams faced just four Seawolves in the seventh and earned her victory.
She threw seven innings, struck out three and gave up 11 hits.
