ROHNERT PARK -- Victories nearly always result when a team forces its opponent into more turnovers than field goals allowed.
And that's one of the reasons why the Coyotes dominated in their 66-45 rout over host Sonoma State in CCAA play Saturday night.
Four Coyotes scored in double figures (led by sophomore Adriana Brodie's 14 points), and coach Renee Jimenez's squad was resolute on the defensive end for all 40 minutes. They forced SSU 22 turnovers, allowed only 15 field goals and never trailed in the contest with just three ties.
CSUSB played its best 20 minutes of the season in the final half as they shot 58 percent from the field on 15 of 26 shooting with Jazzmyn Davis (11) and Tayllor Gipson (10) each scoring in double figures. Davis had seven defensive rebounds and Gipson dealt three assists in the decisive half that saw CSUSB run away from the Seawolves with an impressive 22-7 run midway through the half.
Brodie was nearly flawless inside, hitting 6 of 7 from the field with seven rebounds and two steals in just 18 minutes of play. Davis earned a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Gipson had 12 points and senior Trinidee Trice had 10 points with two blocks.
Not only did the Coyotes force 22 turnovers, they also established a season-high seven blocks.
CSUSB (4-9, 3-7 CCAA) return to Coussoulis Arena on Friday night when they take on Cal State L.A.
Sonoma State (2-12, 1-9) was led by Kristina Fahey's 12 points.
