Coyotes break through with 2-0 win over Hawaii-Hilo

Salt pushes scoreless streak to 200 minutes in season's first two games

Raul Gomez scored the Coyotes' first goal of the season and that was enough in a 2-0 win over Hawaii-Hilo.
Box Score WAIPIO, Hawaii -- One day after not scoring in 110 minutes of play, the Coyotes came back with a vengeance against a most familiar face in a 2-0 win over Hawaii-Hilo in men's soccer Friday afternoon.

Raul Gomez and Larry Llamas each scored goals and sophomore GK Jeff Salt padded his scoreless minutes streak to 200 minutes in the victory over the Vulcans and former CSUSB coach Lance Thompson.

The Coyotes (1-0-1 overall) dominated play with 15 shots, seven shots on goal and the multi-goal effort.

Gomez gave the Coyotes the lead in the 35th minute on a header after a one-touch cross with assists from Robert Mariscal and Llamas.

Then in the 59th minute, Llamas came up with a goal of his own on a through ball from 18 off a feed from freshman Tigran Tiraturyan.

"A very strong performance today from our guys,'' Interim Director of Soccer Travis Clarke said. "We were aggressive and played hard.''

Salt had three saves.

The Coyotes are off Saturday and return to play Sunday against Hawaii Pacific.
