In his five seasons at the helm of the Coyotes women's soccer program, head coach Travis Clarke has his teams winning on the field and in the classroom .
After four consecutive winning seasons, the 2013 squad reached a level unseen at CSUSB. The Coyotes secured a CCAA Tournament berth for the first time, and moved on to the NCAA Tournament for only the second time in school history. CSUSB defeated Cal Baptist on PKs, then upset one of the nation's top teams in Cal State Stanislaus, winning 2-1 in overtime.
CSUSB then advanced to the NCAA West Region final in Bellingham, Wash., where the Coyotes were dealt a 1-0 loss to Western Washington.
Clarke's team was led by All-American goalkeeper Chelsey Jones, who also was the CCAA Defensive Player of the Year and also secured CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-American honors. Seven Coyotes earned All-CCAA honors.
The Coyotes recorded their record-setting third straight winning season posting a 9-6-3 overall record in 2011. During the year, the team broke the following CSUSB program records; consecutive victories (6), consecutive shutouts (4), games without a loss (8). In addition, the women's soccer program holds the highest team GPA in the athletic department and has won two consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Awards.
In his first year at CSUSB, Clarke led the Coyotes to a 10-8-2 mark, notching the fourth-best record in the CCAA South Division. That record was better than the North Division winner, but left CSUSB just out of postseason contention. His 9-5-2 record in the CCAA set the school's record for most wins in a conference season.
Before taking over the Coyotes' program, Clarke spent three seasons at NCAA Division II Hawaii-Hilo (2006-08), in which the Vulcans posted 25 wins in his last two years.
He has three years of assistant coaching experience at the community college level (Santa Barbara City College and Hancock Community College) and eight years of high school coaching experience at Atascadero and Nipomo high schools. While at Atascadero, Clarke coached three NSCAA high school All-Americans (Robby Busick, Jon Mooney and Todd Combs).
