Box Score: Coyotes 1, No. 5 UCSD 0 OT
LA JOLLA --
Jani Carmona-Urbano has been a go-to player throughout her blue and black career with the Coyotes.
On Sunday afternoon, the Lompoc native struck with perhaps her biggest goal of her career.
With a little more than two minutes remaining in the second overtime, Carmona-Urbano scored the game's only goal on a free kick play as the visiting Coyotes earned a stunning 1-0 victory over No. 5-ranked UC San Diego in CCAA South soccer.
CSUSB (5-3-2 overall, 4-3-1 CCAA) earned just its second victory ever on UCSD soil and just the fifth overall in series history. The victory was head coach
Travis Clarke's first against the Tritons in his four seasons at the helm.
The loss was UCSD's first on the season. The Tritons are 7-1-1, 6-1-1.
Both teams totaled seven shots each and each had three saves.
At the 97:46 mark,
Michelle Bagheri had the free kick from 25 yards out and Carmona-Urbano headed the ball past Tritons GK Kelcie Brodsky.
The Coyotes won for the first time since a 1-0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sept. 14.
CSUSB is on the road this week with games at Humboldt State (Friday) and Sonoma State (Sunday).
