SAN BERNARDINO
-- A late start to Thursday's soccer opener between the Coyotes and visiting Central Washington occurred to beat the heat.

But the decision to play at 5 p.m. did not pay off any dividends for either squad as the 2012 opener for both teams culminated in a 0-0 tie in 110 minutes of play.

Each team fired off five shots apiece in the opening 45 minutes, but neither could get one across the box. Coyotes GK Chelsey Jones had two saves in the half, while her counter part Kayla Lipston had one save.

Freshman Melanie Aguayo had an opportunity as she placed a shot from outside that snagged in the 43rd minute.

CSUSB played well on the defensive end in the second half, holding the Wildcats to three shots, but not one SOG. Meanwhile, Lipston turned back each of the four SOG from CSUSB in the final half.

The best chance CSUSB had at a goal was with a minute remaining in the game. Freshman Miranda Corneliussen sent in a cross from the deep left side and the ball cleared unimpeded, but no one could get a handle or an attempt at a shot.

CWU had three shots in the first OT and the Coyotes offered just one attempt in the final 20 minutes -- an attempt from senior Jani Carmona-Urbano in the 106th minute that fell wide.

Carmona-Urbano had five shots with one SOG, while Corneliussen had three with two SOG. Both of Aguayo's shots for the game were SOG.

The Coyotes return to Coyote Premier Field on Tuesday with a 10 a.m. game against Cal Baptist.
