Coyotes give Parnell No. 500

CSUSB puts forth season-highs in runs and hits in 13-4 win

-- Coach Don Parnell's Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes made absolutely sure they secured the 21-year head coach's 500th career victory in style Friday afternoon.

The Coyotes put forth season-high bests in runs and hits as the Coyotes pounded the visiting Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles 13-4 in CCAA baseball.

The victory puts the Coyotes at 10-9 overall and 7-7 in the CCAA, while CSULA dropped to 11-9, 7-7.

Junior Ethan Chapman finished a home run shy of the cycle and finished 4-for-5 with two doubles, junior Curtis Cassise went 4-for-5 with three RBI, while Edwin Mendoza and Paul Eshlelman each homered as the Coyotes belted 20 hits and seven extra-base hits off four Golden Eagles' pitchers.

Add Brandon Day extending his team-best hitting streak to 10 games and kudos were the order on a sun-splashed afternoon.

The Coyotes, who never trailed, grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first on Mendoza's single to left center that scored Cassise and Day, who both singled.

The Golden Eagles tied it at 2-2 on Jeremy Weber's two-run homer off Coyotes' starter Casey McCarthy in the third.
Day put the Coyotes back on top at 3-2 on a run-scoring single that scored Chapman, who had tripled to lead off the inning.

Cassise added an RBI-single in the fourth and he later sccored when Mendoza reached on an error and CSUSB led 5-2.

Eshleman connected on a two-run homer to left that also scored Jake Pilkerton, who singled. Cassise later added another RBI on a single and senior Darren Dworak's two-out double scored Cassise.

Leading 10-4 in the eighth, Mendoza added a solo homer, Matt Haney scored on a wild pitch and Chapman connected on a sacrifice fly.

McCarthy (2-2) was solid for the Coyotes in his seven innings. He struck out six, walked just one and gave up eight hits, four runs -- three earned.

Reliever Kyle Krogman threw two scoreless innings and allowed only two hits.

Weber led the Golden Eagles with three hits.
