Coyotes shut down at Biola, 8-5

A three-run seventh inning broke open a 5-5 game as host Biola went on to earn an 8-5 victory over the Coyotes in nonconference baseball Friday.

The Coyotes (2-2) play host to Cal State Dominguez Hills in a nonconference doubleheader Saturday. First pitch is 11 a.m.

Down 2-0 through three innings, the Coyotes answered with a four-run, fourth inning.

Darren Dworak, who led off the inning with a walk, scored on a balk. Mike Newell followed by reaching base on an error to the shortstop that scored Matt Winn, who singled to left. Ethan Chapman hit a sacrifice fly to left that scored Eric Dow and Curtis Cassise added a two-out, run-scoring single to center.

Biola drew within a run with one in the fourth and went ahead 5-4 with a two-run fifth.

The Coyotes tied the game at 5-5 in the seventh without earning a hit. Three straight walks allowed Paul Eshleman to earn an RBI with a fielder's choice.

Jeff Terzo took the loos. He threw 2/3 of an inning after replacing starter Casey McCarthy to begin the seventh.
