Britney Butler and
Jamie Leffingwell each had two hits and senior
Alex Mitchell added an RBI, but it wasn't enough as the Coyotes were defeated 5-2 by Cal State Monterey Bay in the first game of Friday's doubleheader.
CSUSB allowed 13 runs in the first inning and lost 14-0 in the second game that was called after five innings.
The Coyotes dropped to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in the CCAA, while the Otters improved to 13-3, 5-1.

In the opener, the Coyotes scored a run in each of the first two innings and led 2-1 entering the fourth inning.
Butler gave CSUSB a 1-0 lead with a double to right center that scored
Charlotte Galzote, who reached on a single down the right-field line.
In the second, Mitchell's two-out single up the middle scored Leffingwell, who led off the inning with a double.
But the Otters placed a four-run, two-hit fourth inning and that was enough to earn the win.
Senior RHP
Courtney Wilhelms is now 3-4. She threw 3 1/3 innings and struck out two, walked four and scattered six hits.
