ROHNERT PARK – Senior RHP
Aaron Brooks threw eight solid innings and the Coyotes' offense did the rest as CSUSB, which trailed 3-0, scored four unanswered runs and grabbed the series opener against No. 24 Sonoma State 4-3 on Friday.
The victory pulled the Coyotes (21-18 overall and 18-13 CCAA) to within a half game of third place in the CCAA, behind the host Seawolves (28-14, 19-13).
Down 3-0 after four innings, CSUSB scratched back at the lead, picking up a run in the fifth on
Eric Dow's double to deep left center that scored
Darren Dworak from first.
In the fifth, the Coyotes' placed runners on base with two walks and two hit batters and CSUSB got to within a run, 3-2.
After an error and a single by
Mike Newell and
Erik Ornelas, respectively, in the seventh,
Brandon Day got the job done with a two-run triple off SSU's Bryan Bordagaray and CSUSB had the lead for the first time, 4-3.
Brooks was stellar yet again for the Coyotes. He threw eight innings, struck out eight, did not walk a batter and scattered six hits. All three runs were unearned.
Junior RHP
