SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco State's Kevin Dultz hit a one-out single that scored the winning run as the Coyotes were defeated 2-1 in 12 innings in the teams' CCAA series finale Sunday.
CSUSB, now 13-13 overall and 10-8 in the CCAA, return to northern California this weekend when it takes on Chico State in a four-game series that begins Friday night.
The Coyotes grabbed a 2-0 in the first inning, but the Gators came back to tie in their half of the inning.
David Silvas' single scored
Ethan Chapman, who reached base on a walk. Two batters later,
Darren Dworak's ground-out scored
Erik Ornelas, who reached on an error.
After SFSU tied the game in the first, the Coyotes grabbed the lead again in the fourth.
Eric Dow's two-out single scored
Brandon Day, who singled.
A sacrifice fly in the seventh by the Gators tied the game at 3-3 until the 12th inning heroics from Dultz.
The teams combined for 16 hits with just one extra-base hit from SFSU's Ben Mielke.
Chapman and Silvas each had two hits.
Trevor Longfellow took the loss with 2 1/3 innings of relief. Starter
Casey McCarthy threw 3 1/3 innings with four strikeouts.
