SAN FRANCISCO – Senior RHP Aaron Brooks gave up three hits and struck out eight, but Cal State San Bernardino's offense couldn't help him out as the host San Francisco State Gators defeated the Coyotes 1-0 in the teams' CCAA series opener Friday.

Brooks (2-5) again was stellar for the Coyotes, now 11-12 overall and 8-7 in the CCAA, but CSUSB stranded just one runner for the game and did not advance anyone past second base.

Erik Ornelas had a pair of singles and Virgil Chavira had the other single against SFSU's Steven Dea, who struck out five in his eight innings of work.

Nic Gauldin's run-scoring single in the eighth was the difference in a game that lasted five minutes shy of two hours.

The two teams continue their weekend series Saturday with a doubleheader that begins at 11 a.m.
