Coyotes complete long Saturday with two decisive wins

CSUSB defeats CSU Stanislaus 14-1, 14-7 in Beaumont

Brianne Godfredson earned a pair of victories Saturday against CSU Stanislaus.
BEAUMONT – Despite playing in temperatures in the 30s at games' end, a location change and a 5:30 p.m. start time, the Coyotes earned decisive wins, 14-1 and 14-7, against Cal State Stanislaus in CCAA softball Saturday.

The Coyotes are now 21-13 overall and 13-11 in the CCAA and are idle until they take part in the Tournament of Champions, held in Turlock.

Cal State Stanislaus dropped to 14-18, 11-13.

The Coyotes struck with their biggest inning of the season – a 13-run, eight-hit inning that saw the Coyotes send 17 batters to the plate.

Alex Mitchell started the inning's scoring with an RBI-single, and Jacquelyn Holtzclaw followed with a two-run double and Courtney Wilhelms added a two-run single and the Coyotes led 5-1.

Three batters later, Britney Butler ripped a grand slam and Jamie Leffingwell had a solo homer and CSUSB led 10-1.

Wilhelms added another two-run single and Alyssa Flores' sacrifice fly RBI capped the 13-run inning.
Butler added her second home run of the game in the fourth.

Brianne Godfredson threw a two-hitter, despite issuing six walks. She had one strikeout.

Butler had five RBI and Wilhelms had four RBI. Leffingwell was 3-for-3.

Game 2: Coyotes 14, CSU Stanislaus 7

The Coyotes took control early, leading 13-2 through three innings.

A nine-run third inning featured Priscilla Curiel's grand slam.

Mitchell and Holtzclaw each scored on wild pitches in the first and Butler popped a two-run homer – her third on the night – in the Coyotes' first.

Butler had three RBI and Wilhelms was 3-for-4. Curiel, Leffingwell, Felicia Cervantes and Stefanie Pace all had two hits.

Godfredson earned her second win on the night. She threw 3 1/3 innings of relief and allowed two hits and one run.
