TURLOCK — An unfortunate error by Cal State San Bernardino in the bottom of the 13th inning gave Cal State Stanislaus a 4-3 win in the first game of four-game CCAA series.

The Coyotes (11-3, 11-2 CCAA), who were recently ranked No. 5 in the NCBWA Poll and No. 25 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll, broke a five-game winning streak with the loss to the Warriors (7-9, 4-5 CCAA)

After a 3-3 tie carried into extra innings, neither team scored until the bottom of the 13th. Carlos Nakamura (1-1) got two straight groundouts before walking David Contreras who then stole second. Corey Conflenti then hit a ground ball to short to Kyle Davis who muffed a throw to  first, allowing Contreras to score the winning run.

Cal State San Bernardino never trailed the entire game and led for the majority of it. It didn't take long for the Coyotes to get on the board. After Erik Ornelas, the second batter of the game, walked, Matthew Winn singled up the middle to put runners at first and second. Cody Madison then ripped a two-run single to center, scoring both Ornelas and Winn.

The Warriors answered with two runs in the bottom of the second on a triple down the right field line and a ground out to tie it at 2-2.

The Coyotes retook the lead in the top of the fourth on an Ornelas sacrifice fly to right that scored Ethan Chapman. Chapman reached base with a one-out triple down the field field line.

The Coyotes held the one-run lead until the bottom of the eighth when Conflenti tripled to left center to score Contreras from first to tie the game at 3-3.

After a scoreless ninth, the game ventured into extra innings and neither team threatened until the top of the 12th.

Bryant Veiga led off the inning by reaching base on an error and then stole second after a strikeout. He moved to third on a groundout, but was left stranded 90 feet away on the final out of the inning.

The Coyotes went down in order in the top of the 13th before the Warriors pulled out the game with the error in the 13th.

Nakamura took the loss after throwing the final 1.2 innings, allowing no earned runs. Coyote starter Aaron Brooks tossed 10 complete innings and allowed three runs on six hits and struck out 10.

Winn led the way for CSUSB, going 2-for-5 at the plate with a run scored.
