COMPTON —
Ethan Chapman hit his first home run of the year, as Cal State San Bernardino dropped its first regular season game of the year, 10-2, to Cal State L.A.

The two-run, pinch hit home run to right center was the only time the Coyotes (0-1) scored after amassing four hits through the first seven innings. The Golden Eagles scored early and often, putting one run on the board in each of the first two innings and two more in the bottom of the third on a home run by Cliff Quick to lead 4-0. CSULA added three more runs in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead before Chapman stopped the bleeding in the top of the seventh.

The Golden Eagles responded by scoring two more in the bottom half of the seventh and put the finishing touches on the contest with a solo shot to left field by Mario Ramirez.

Anthony Lopez recorded his first win of the year for Cal State L.A., going the first five innings while Aaron Brooks took the loss for the Coyotes. Brooks allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits and struck out two. Jim McNamara and Chris Meszala each tossed a pair of innings with McNamara allowing three earned runs on five hits while Meszala allowed just one run on two hits.

James Kono went 2-for-3 with a run scored while Cody Madison went 2-for-5 on the day.

Cal State San Bernardino is scheduled to play a doubleheader with Cal State L.A., at 11 a.m., and Cal State Dominguez Hills, at 3 p.m., again at the Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy.
