CARSON — Krystal Urzua scored a team-high 20 points and was 4-for-5 from 3-point range as Cal State San Bernardino fell 77-65 to Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The Coyotes (12-12, 8-11 CCAA) lost their fourth straight and sixth in seven games and is now in a tie for eighth in the conference with only eight teams getting into the CCAA Tournament.
Urzua shot 50 percent from the field (6-12), which included just the one missed three and she was also a perfect 4-for-4 from the line. The senior also pulled down three boards and had two assists and two steals.
Nikki Boone also scored in double figures with 12 points while Kymberly Ooten scored 10 and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Neka Mixon scored a game-high 28 points while Brandie McCann added 15 for the Toros.
The Coyotes shot 42.3 percent (22-52) from the field and actually turned it over less than CSUDH, but the Toros out rebounded CSUSB 33-19 which led to 13 second-chance points. Dominguez Hills also more than doubled the Coyotes' bench points, scoring 36 compared to just 15 by CSUSB.
The Toros shot 54.3 percent from the field and were 22-for-26 at the charity stripe.
The Coyotes jumped out to an 8-2 lead, but an 11-0 run by the Toros made it a 13-8 game with 11:57 left in the first half. CSUDH led 16-12 before a Urzua trey and an Ashlee Ford layup gave Cal State San Bernardino a 17-16 lead with 7:28 left.
That was the last lead the Coyotes held.
CSUSB stayed close and trailed just 20-19 with five minutes to play, but the Toros closed the half on a 15-6 run to lead 36-25 at the break.
Dominguez Hills pushed it out to a 41-28 lead early in the second half, but the Coyotes answered with a 19-7 run in which Urzua had nine of those points to get within one at 48-47. CSUSB got within one point again at the 9:07 mark on a Boone free throw at 52-51, but a 24-8 run gave the Toros their biggest lead at 76-59 with just 1:21 to play.
The Coyotes will have a chance to pick up a game and break the four-game skid when tomorrow night when they travel to Cal State L.A. who is 2-17 in conference and sitting in 11th place.
