Box Score: CSU East Bay 3, Coyotes 2 2OT
HAYWARD --
Casey Hirsch and Jani Carmona each scored goals Sunday, but the biggest goal of the game arrived in double overtime, courtesy of Cal State East Bay's Kara Yamamoto as the host Pioneers defeated the CSUSB Coyotes 3-2 in CCAA women's soccer.
The Coyotes, who lost for the third straight time by one goal, fell to 5-4-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the CCAA South.
Trailing 2-0 early in the second half, Hirsch cut the lead in half when she scored on a feed from
Unity Beddingfield in the 57th minute. Beddingfield's cross found Hirsch about seven yards out and she promptly put it in the net.
Then with a little more than three minutes remaining in regulation, Carmona positioned herself near the net and was the recipient of a corner kick from
Kelsey Gudgeon. The Lompoc native secured a well-placed header and the game was tied at 2-2.
Each team had one shot on goal in the first OT, but couldn't convert. But with just less than two minutes remaining, Yamamoto made her shot count.
CSUSB returns to Coyote Premier Field on Friday when they take on San Francisco State.
