Cabrera answers with two goals in 3-1 win over CSU Monterey Bay

No. 8 Coyotes improve to 8-3-1 overall, 6-3-1 CCAA South

Head Coach Noah Kooiman and his 8-3-1 Coyotes take on Cal Poly Pomona this week.
Box Score: No. 8 Coyotes 3, CSU Monterey Bay 1

SAN BERNARDINO
-- Coach Noah Kooiman can appreciate the effort when a player comes off the bench and provides his team a lift.

Senior Albert Cabrera is no reserve, but despite not starting, the Ontario gave his team a necessary spark as his two goals helped lift the No. 8 Coyotes past visiting CSU Monterey Bay 3-1 on a hot, windy day at Coyote Premier Field.

The Coyotes are now 8-3-1 overall and 6-3-1 in the CCAA South as they prepare for a weekend series against rival Cal Poly Pomona, beginning Friday in San Bernardino. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. and the series moves over to CPP on Sunday.

It didn't take long for the Coyotes to shrug aside the effects of Friday's difficult 1-0 loss to San Francisco State. Demetri Burgos scored his first goal of the season at the 6-minute mark when Zach Walker found his teammate and Burgos slapped the ball past Otters GK Sam Campanelli.

The lead disappeared, however, when the Otters' Max Briney placed a header that went past the outstretched arms of Coyotes GK Tanner Olinger with 11 minutes into the contest.

But Cabrera made his presence a known factor. He received a long cross from Juan Galarza and delivered a header past Campanelli's left side at the 36-minute mark.

Then for good measure, Cabrera scored his second goal of the day and his fifth on the season just five minutes later. He broke free near the net and delivered on a pass from Julian Garcia.

That would take care of the scoring -- all in the first half. Olinger improved to 5-3-1 wiht two saves.

CSUSB was the aggressor throughout as it held the advantage in corner kicks (14-1) and it out-shot the Otters 20-6.
