In her first collegiate match as a freshman, Allison Pena scored the match-deciding goal and assisted on another Friday as host Cal State San Bernardino defeated West Region No. 7 Humboldt State, 2-0, in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer match at Coyote Premier Field. 
    Pena was inserted into the match late in the first half and responded by launching a high-arching 35-yard shot from near the far sideline that sailed into the upper part of the net over the outstretched arms of Lumberjacks' goalkeeper Kelly Sandberg with 15 seconds left before intermission. 
    Then just four minutes into the second half Pena was involved in a scramble for the ball deep in the box and fed sophomore Kristina Gomez who sent the ball into the net to put the Coyotes up 2-0. 
    The victory improved the Coyotes to 3-4 on the season and 2-1 in the CCAA while the Lumberjacks, unaccustomed to playing in 100-degree heat, fell to 4-3 on the season and 1-2 in the CCAA. CSUSB hosts West Region No. 8 Sonoma State at 11:30 a.m. Sunday while the 'Jacks are at Cal Poly Pomona. 
    CSUSB was more aggressive offensively throughout the match, with 19 shots, 11 of them on goal, forcing Sandberg to make nine saves. Humboldt, pressured by a strong Coyotes defense, had only three shots in the entire match and two of them were stopped by redshirt freshman goalkeeper Tiffany Mallick in the second half. The other sailed wide. 
    Pena was a pest during the second half with a handful of shots, three of which were stopped by Sandberg. Gomez had three shots on goal and had two stopped by Sandberg.
