Broncos pound Coyotes 11-1

Four Cal Poly Pomona pitchers limit CSUSB to five hits in CCAA baseball game

Kyle Davis doubled and scored CSUSB's only run in 11-1 loss to Cal Poly Pomona Friday.
POMONA -- Cal Poly Pomona erupted for seven runs in the third inning and Casey McCarthy pitched six innings of three-hit ball Friday as the Broncos trampled the Coyotes, 11-1, in a CCAA baseball game at Scolinos Field.
The Broncos pounded out 13 hits to even the series at 1-1 heading into a doubleheader at noon Saturday at Arrowhead Credit Union Park in San Bernardino.
The loss dropped the Coyotes to 17-14 on the season and 12-9 in the CCAA while the Broncos are 17-15 overall and 10-12 in conference play.
CSUSB got to McCarthy (2-0) early, scoring a run in the top of the first as shortstop Kyle Davis doubled to left center to open the game and came home on a single by third baseman Jesus Beltran, who was later doubled off first after Cody Madison flied out to end the inning.
Coyotes starter Bryan W. Hart (3-2) retired six of the first seven batters he faced but ran into a buzzsaw in the third, giving up all seven runs on six hits, compounded by two Coyotes errors that resulted in two unearned runs.
McCarthy didn't allow a hit after the third inning and left after six innings. Brandan King, Jarett Attard and Ryan Screnar each pitched a scoreless inning of relief while yielding just two hits.
Kyle Davis had two hits in four at bats Friday, giving him four hits in eight at bats in the series and lifting his season batting average to a team-high .339.
Richard McDowell and Jeff Ringholm had three hits apiece to lead the Broncos.
