CSUSB rips Chico State 12-2 in baseball

Stenavich pitches five-hitter after Wildcats take first game by same score

Daniel Stenavich pitched five-hit ball as CSUSB beat Chico State 12-2 Friday.
    CHICO -- Junior right-hander Daniel Stenavich made his debut on the mound for Cal State San Bernardino a good one Friday by scattering five hits over eight innings as the Coyotes rolled over Chico State 12-2 in the second game of their CCAA baseball doubleheader.
     The Wildcats won the first game by the same score, 12-2.
     Stenavich, a transfer from Southwestern College, struck out four and the two runs he allowed were both unearned. Trevor Longfellow pitched a scoreless ninth to give CSUSB a 5-7 overall record and 1-1 in the CCAA.
     The same two teams meet Saturday for another doubleheader at 11 a.m.
     Junior second baseman Brent Planck led the Coyotes with four hits in five at bats, two RBI and two runs scored. Cody Madison had two hits and two runs sscored. Jesus Beltran was one for four with two RBI in the 15-hit Coyotes attack.
     In the opener, San Bernardino collected 10 hits but runs were scarce as Chico took an early 6-1 lead and tacked on six more runs in the eighth to complete the rout. Josh Meagher was three-for-five with a home run and three RBI for the Wildcats to lead a 16-hit attack.
     Catcher Chris Olsen homered for the Coyotes.
