SEASIDE --- Sophomore Kristina Gomez scored a goal 18 minutes into the match Friday and her Cal State San Bernardino teammates made it stand up for a 1-0 CCAA conference women's soccer victory over host Cal State Monterey Bay.
     The Coyotes improved to 7-5-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the CCAA while the Otters dropped to 2-9-2 overall and 1-7-1 in the conference. CSUSB will play at San Francisco State on Sunday.
      Gomez scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season off an assist by junior forward Katie Liby on a breakaway behind the Otters defense. The CSUSB defense then stepped up, allowing just six shots by the Otters, only two of which required a save by senior Coyote goalkeeper Laura Lyons.
       CSUSB is now 6-1-1 in its last seven matches and the team is now ranked No. 5 in the NCAA West Region poll.
        Andrea Davis made two saves in goal for the Otters who got two shots on goal by Gabrielle Bozzo but both were stopped by Lyons, who picked up her third shutout of the season.
