Brent Planck homered for Coyotes in 3-2 loss to UC San Diego Tuesday.
LA JOLLA -- UC San Diego defeated Cal State San Bernardino, 3-2, Tuesday afternoon, enabling the Tritons to complete a sweep of their CCAA conference four-game series that began in mid-February.
The game was a makeup of a rained-out contest scheduled for the Tritons field.
The victory improved UCSD to 12-4 in the CCAA and in third place behind Sonoma State and Cal State Stanislaus. The Tritons are 21-6 overall. CSUSB is now 4-12 in the conference and 13-16 overall.
It won't get any easier this weekend as the Coyotes travel to Turlock to take on a Cal State Stanislaus team that is 22-8 overall, 14-2 in the CCAA and in second place as well as being ranked No. 2 in the West Region in one collegiate baseball writer's poll.
Sophomore infielder Brent Planck belted a solo home run for the Coyotes Tuesday and Jesus Beltran drove in the other CSUSB run. Coyotes starter Matt Long yielded all three Tritons runs and took the loss. CSUSB had seven hits on the day and committed three errors in the field.
The Coyotes' last opportunity to pull even with UCSD ended in the top of the eighth when Johnnie Haas was picked off first base. CSUSB went down in order in the ninth.
