Coyotes split pair with S.F. State

Dahl drive in 3 runs in 5-3 CSUSB win; Gators rally to win nightcap, 5-4

Jordan Dahl (shown here playing first base) had three hits and drove in three runs in 5-3 CSUSB win over S.F. State
SAN FRANCISCO -- Senior third baseman Jordan Dahl tripled and drove in three runs as Cal State San Bernardino defeated San Francisco State, 5-3, in the first game of their Saturday CCAA softball doubleheader at the Gators' field.
The Gators then rallied for four runs in the sixth inning of the second game to erase a 4-1 Coyotes lead and win 5-4 to take the four-game series three games to one. The Coyotes are now 19-17-1 on the season, 10-8 in the CCAA and in fourth place. The Gators are 16-12 overall, 6-8 in the conference.
Dahl went three-for-three in the opener, stole her 13th base of the season and scored a run. Ashley Collinwood had a pair of hits in four at-bats to back up the pitching of Debbie Shisler (4-3) who went the distance, giving up three runs on just four hits while walking six.
The Coyotes' five runs were all unearned off SFSU pitcher Ashley Jackson (7-5) as the Gators committed four errors behind her.
In the nightcap, the Coyotes jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first against the Gators ace Kendra Wood without benefit of a hit, but capitalized on two Gator errors and a wild pitch. CSUSB made it 4-1 Coyotes in the sixth on a solo home run by freshman Jacquelyn Holtzclaw.
Then the roof caved in on CSUSB starter Tawni Baker (6-6). The Gators scored four runs on four hits, the big blow being a three-run homer by Lea Cardenas with one out.
In the Coyotes' seventh, Dahl reached base on a fielder's choice, stole second, moved to third on a sacrifice by Jamie Lowe. After Priscilla Curiel walked, Wood got Nicole Camarena to fly out to center ending the game with the tying run at third.
The Coyotes return home to face CCAA member Humboldt State in a non-conference game on Tuesday. The Lumberjacks were swept in a four-game series by Cal State Dominguez Hills this weekend.
CSUSB starter Tawni Baker (6-6) sailed along until the bottom of the sixth
