SAN FRANCISCO -- Strong pitching by San Francisco State's Ashley Jackson and Kendra Wood cooled the hot bats of Cal State San Bernardino Friday as the host Gators swept a CCAA softball doubleheader, 1-0 and 4-2, at the Gators field.
Jackson (7-4) scattered seven hits in pitching a complete-game shutout for SFSU, outpitching the Coyotes'
Debbie Shisler (3-3) who yielded just one run, an RBI single by Jordanna Freemer that scored Karolyn Gubbine with one out in the third to take the opener. Shisler struck out two and didn't walk anyone.
Wood (5-1) yielded just four hits in the nightcap as the Gators got to CSUSB starter
Tawni Baker for four runs on seven hits, including a homer by Freeman. Baker struck out nine and walked only one but the Coyotes were unable to solve Wood's deliveries.
CSUSB (18-16-1 overall, 9-7 in the CCAA) and SFSU (15-11 overall, 6-7 in the CCAA) will finish their four-game series with a doubleheader at noon on Saturday.
The Coyotes'
Jordan Dahl was three-for-eight in the doubleheader with two doubles and an RBI and a run scored. Dahl also stole her 12th base of the season.
Jamie Lowe and
Priscilla Curiel each had two hits in the first game.
CSUSB stranded 12 runners in the doubleheader.
