Coyotes host Gators, Otters in soccer

CSUSB is ranked No. 4 in West Region; SFSU is No. 8

    Cal State San Bernardino's women's soccer team, tabbed to finish last in the CCAA's South Division by a vote of the conference coaches, find themselves all alone in first place after six matches. 
    The Coyotes are 4-1-1 in the CCAA, giving them a one-point edge over UC San Diego, after losing to Cal State Dominguez Hills 1-0 last Friday and beating UC San Diego 1-0 in double overtime on Sunday. 
    CSUSB is 6-2-2 overall and is now ranked No. 4 in the West Region. 
    CSUSB was just 4-8-2 in the CCAA last year (14 points). The team has 13 points already in CCAA play this year with eight conference matches remaining. 
    The Coyotes entertain No. 8 San Francisco State Friday at 1:30 p.m. The Gators are 5-4-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the CCAA North Division. Cal State Monterey Bay is the visitor at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The Otters are 1-9-1 thus far and 0-6 in the CCAA. 
    VS. S.F. STATE – Coyotes lead the series 7-5 with three ties and are 3-1-1 since the 2002 season in their matches with the Gators. 
    VS. MONTEREY BAY -- CSUSB leads the series 3-0-1 since the Otters joined the CCAA in 2004. 
    YOTES NOTES – CSUSB leads the CCAA in goals against average (0.65 per match) and is No. 3 in assists per match (1.5) and No. 4 in total assists (15)….Krista Feer is tied for fourth in points scored with 11 and seventh in goals scored (4)…..Feer and Katie Liby are tied for seventh in assists (3)…..Feer has two match-deciding goals this season….Laura Lyons leads the CCAA in save percentage (.860) with just seven goals allowed Vs. 43 saves….she is third in saves (43, 4.78 per match)…..Coach Diego Bocanegra is 14-10-6 in the middle of his second season as head coach of the Coyotes… 
    GATORS GAB -- SFSU is a Jekyll and Hyde team thus far in 2008 – undefeated at home (5-0-2) and winless on the road (0-4)…Coach Jack Hyde is in his 25th season as head coach at SFSU and entered the season with 181 victories, 294 for his collegiate career….the team is coming off a 9-9-2 year in 2007, 6-6-2 in the CCAA….Robin Bowman is the chief offensive threat for SFSU with five goals and an assist for 11 points. Myriah Johnson has four goals….SFSU has limited 11 opponents to just seven goals with six matches ending in shutouts…..the Gators upset UCSD, 2-1 on Sept. 12…..goalkeeper Rachel Lauderdale has three shutouts to her credit and an 0.69 goals against average. 
    OTTERS POPS – Offense appears to be a bugaboo for Monterey Bay. The team has just six goals in 11 matches and has been outscored 26-6….Sarah Alderson and Eva Arzola each have two goals while Alyssa Matheson leads in assists with two…… 
    POLL WATCHING – Sonoma State is ranked No. 12 in the National Soccer Coaches Association top 25 poll….The latest NSCAA West Region poll has Western Washington at No. 1, Sonoma State No. 2, Seattle Pacific No. 3, the Coyotes at No. 4 followed by Cal State Stanislaus, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Hawaii-Hilo and San Francisco State at No.8.
