Cal State San Bernardino's women's soccer team, 1-16-2 in 2006, is on a roll in 2007 with five wins in its last six matches and four victories in its last five California Collegiate Athletic Association outings.
The Coyotes subdued Cal State Monterey Bay 4-1 on Friday and then took the measure of host San Francisco State, 2-0, in the fog at Skyline College in San Bruno on Sunday.
CSUSB improved to 8-6-2 overall and 4-6-1 in the CCAA with the weekend wins.
The eight wins equals the team's best season win record since the 2004 season with four matches remaining. The four conference wins to date is also the most since 2004.
In the victory over Monterey Bay, freshman
Katie Liby scored two goals in less than a minute in the first half on a drizzling, cold day in Seaside. Freshman
Jenna Sanchez also scored off an assist by
Lauren Zellmer. Zellmer later scored her second goal of the season.
Ashley Haagsma and
Lisa Montgomery assisted on Liby's goals. Liby, who earlier this season earned CCAA player of the week, now has a team-leading eight goals on the year.
Leslie Rhodes and Shawna-Rei Kam combined for six saves in goal against the Otters.
On Sunday, Rhodes -- with help from her defenders -- earned her fourth shutout of the season and 11th of her career against the host Gators. Junior
Krista Feer scored both Coyote goals in a three-minute span early in the first half. Feer now has five goals on the season.
CSUSB got the most out of the least -- taking just four shots on goal the entire match. SFSU, meanwhile took 18 shots. Rhodes made five saves en route to the shutout.
