SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's soccer team was victorious in its 2026 home opener Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 win against the Biola Eagles in non-conference action at Premier Field.
With the win, CSUSB improves to 1-0-1 on the season.
The Yotes came out controlling possession and created the first opportunities of the match. In the 16th minute, Ty Kerns carried the ball near midfield before sending a through ball ahead to senior Rafa Fonseca. Fonseca beat his defender one-on-one and fired a low shot into the left side of the net to give CSUSB an early 1-0 lead.Â
San Bernardino continued to apply pressure throughout the remainder of the first half, controlling much of the possession and keeping the Eagles from creating many opportunities on the attacking end. The Yotes outshot Biola 4-1 in the opening 45 minutes, putting two shots on target while holding the Eagles without a shot on goal.
The Yotes continued to create chances in the second half, but the score remained 1-0 heading into the final 10 minutes.
In the 80th minute, an effort from Aaron Sullivan on the attacking end resulted in a corner kick for the Yotes. Diego Lopez sent the ensuing cross into the box, finding Damian Gonzalez at the near post for a header into the back of the net to give San Bernardino a 2-0 lead to secure the CSUSB victory.
Making his Yotes debut, senior Cody Lindeman had a strong showing between the posts, earning the clean sheet as San Bernardino secured its first win of the season.
Next up, the Yotes travel to Fresno Pacific on Wednesday at 6 p.m. before returning home to host Regis on Sunday at 11 a.m. Both matches will stream on FloCollege.
