GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The California State University San Bernardino men's golf team placed third out of 20 teams at the RJGA Palm Valley Classic, held at Palm Valley Golf Course.
The Yotes shot 25 strokes under par for the 54-hole tournament.
The Coyotes opened the tournament with a two-under par performance in Monday's first round, putting them in a tie for 12th place. Despite the modest start, juniors
Kamron Hopson (Redlands, Calif.) and
Marco Lin (Taoyuan, Taiwan) each recorded an eagle on the second hole. Hopson led the team in round one with a three-under 69.
CSUSB surged in the second round, with all five golfers finishing under par and combining for an impressive 13-under team score. Hopson and sophomore
Mario Stump (Benicia, Calif.) paced the charge, each carding a four-under 68. Sophomore
Tyler Price (Yucaipa, Calif.) added a three-under 69,
Aaron Parayno (Fresno, Calif.) posted a two-under 70, and Lin rounded out the scoring with a one-under 71.
The Coyotes maintained their momentum in the final round, once again finishing entirely under par as a team. Stump and Price each shot 69, Lin and Parayno each recorded a 70, and Hopson finished with a 71. Lin and Stump also recorded eagles in the round.
Stump led CSUSB with a nine-under performance for the tournament, earning a tie for eighth place. Hopson followed at eight-under, finishing in a tie for twelfth, while Price finished six-under and was tied for sixteenth place. Lin concluded the tournament at even par, and Parayno finished at three-over.
Competing as an individual, redshirt freshman
Steven Rivera (Fresno, Calif.) turned in a strong showing at three-under overall, with rounds of 72, 70, and 71.
The Coyotes return to action April 13–14 at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational in Turlock, hosted by Stanislaus State.
