BEAUMONT, Calif. – The California State University San Bernardino men's golf team sits in the lead after the opening two rounds of the Coyote Classic, played Monday at Oak Valley Golf Club.
The Coyotes trailed by one shot at the end of round one with a score of eight-under par.
Playing as an individual, redshirt sophomore
Steven Rivera (Fresno, Calif.) led all players at the tournament with a score of -5 in round one. He birdied five holes in a six-hole span early in his round and finished with seven birdies to carry the individual lead to round two.
Sophomore
Tyler Price (Yucaipa, Calif.) made five back-nine birdies to open the tournament with a score of four-under par, while junior
Kamron Hopson (Redlands, Calif.) was a shot back at three-under. Junior
Marco Lin (Taoyuan, Taiwan) looked sharp in round one as well, shooting an one-under 71.
Graduate student
Jetty Sivongsay (Fullerton, Calif.) and sophomore
Aaron Parayno (Fresno, Calif.) each shot scores of one-over par to round out the scorers for the Yotes in round one.
In round two, Hopson found another gear to jump into the tourney's lead after a seven-under 65. He made birdie or better on six of his last seven holes, including an eagle on the par-5 16th.
Parayno also eagled the 16th, en route to a second round even-par 72, while Price, Lin, and Sivongsay were all one-over.
Leading the individuals was redshirt freshman
Teddy Hall (Cambridge, England), turning in a one-under par in round two.
The Yotes will look to close out the tournament victory on Tuesday with the final round of the Coyote Classic. The shotgun start is slated for 8 a.m.
