STOCKTON, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's golf team has opened up a six-stroke lead after competing in round one of the CCAA Championships Monday at the Reserve at Spanos Park.
The Coyotes turned in a team score of six strokes under par, six shots ahead of second place Cal State San Marcos, which was even par on Monday.Â
Coyote junior
Kamron Hopson (Redlands, Calif.) finds himself in a four-way tie for first place after the opening round, carding a four-under 68. He made five birdies, including four on the back nine, as well as an eagle on the par-five second hole.
Sophomore
Mario Stump (Benicia, Calif.) is two shots off the lead and sits alone in fifth place after carding a two-under 70 on Monday. Stump matched Hopson's team-high of five birdies in the round, including on three of the four par-fives.
Sophomore
Aaron Parayno (Fresno, Calif.) is one-under par and sits in sixth. He birdied a pair of holes on each nine. Classmate
Tyler Price (Yucaipa, Calif.) was four-under on the front nine but stumbled down the stretch to finish at one-over, tied with junior
Marco Lin (Taoyuan, Taiwan).
Every player on the Coyotes is placed no worse than 12th in the 35-player field after Monday's opening round.
The Yotes will tee off in round two of the CCAA Championships at 10:35 a.m. on Tuesday.
