SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino baseball team defeated the University of Redlands Bulldogs 10-1 Tuesday evening in a midweek non-conference matchup at Fiscalini Field.
With the win, CSUSB improves to 5-11.
The score remained 0-0 until the fourth inning, when the Coyotes got on the board first with a two-run homer by senior Garret Barto (Pittsburgh, Pa.).
Also in the fourth, senior Benji Solano (Chula Vista, Calif.) drove in a pair of runs on a single to right to make it 4-0. Sophomore Keedan Nadeau (Highland, Calif.) capped the five-run frame with an RBI single to left center.
Senior Patrick Fregoso (Eastvale, Calif.) and Betanco each hit solo home runs in the bottom of the six to extend CSUSB's lead to seven.
Redlands got on the board in the top of the sixth with a solo home run, cutting the Coyotes lead to 7-1.
The Yotes tacked on another run in the bottom of the seventh, when sophomore Ramone Valenzuela (Hemet, Calif.) hit an RBI single, scoring Fregoso, who walked to lead off the inning.
Senior Jeremy Giesegh (Upland, Calif.) hit a two-run home run to extend the lead to 10-1 in the bottom of the eighth.
CSUSB, as well as Redlands, threw bullpen games. Senior Brian Garcia (Lake Arrowhead, Calif.) earned the win after throwing a scoreless fourth inning.
Barto and Betanco paced the Coyote offense with a pair of hits each.
Next, CSUSB travels to Cal State San Marcos for a four-game set starting on Friday. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
