LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino softball team suffered a 8-0 defeat at the hands of Colorado Christian University Sunday morning to conclude the West Coast Challenge at Rosetta Canyon Sports Park.
With the defeat, the Coyotes drop to 5-5 overall on the season.
The game remained close until the top of the fifth inning when Colorado Christian scored five times to break the contest open.
Cougar right-hander Elyse McMullin was perfect until two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, when CSUSB reliever Ava Paquin (Fullerton, Calif.) beat out a bunt base hit to third. It proved to be the only hit of the game for the Coyotes.
Colorado Christian added some insurance with a three-run homer in the top of the seventh, giving the game its final score of 8-0.
The loss was charged to Yotes starter Ashley Legler (San Diego, Calif.), who allowed three earned runs over 4.2. innings pitched.
Next up, the Yotes will travel down to Vanguard University on Friday for a doubleheader against the Lions. First pitch in game one is slated for 12 p.m.
